When you’re at a party and you tell people you’re a Hypnotherapist you are never surprised when their response is to look down so you cannot look into their eyes! There are many misconceptions about Hypnosis and one of these is that you can somehow do something with your eyes to put people ‘under your spell’ (like Kaa, the snake from the Jungle Book)! Of course, this is not true!
I am Hayley Jones of Foreman & Jones and I am a Hypnotherapist and NLP Master Practitioner as well as being a Medical Herbalist. Hypnosis and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) are great tools anyone can use to create positive change in their life. Often people have questions about Hypnosis and I would like to answer some of these here.
People often want to know:
Can anyone be hypnotised? I think my mind is too strong.
The answer is that anyone can enter into the state we know as Hypnosis, and everyone has probably been into this state in the past without knowing it. It is like daydreaming. It is like when you are driving and you ‘zone out’ and can’t remember stopping at the traffic lights, or taking a left turn. It is like when you are so absorbed in a book that you don’t hear someone call your name. Essentially, Hypnosis is Self Hypnosis – it is a teamwork between you and Hayley. She directs you in how to relax your body and relax your mind, so you are always in control, and a strong mind is a good thing. In Hypnosis you use this relaxed state to learn new helpful tools, and let go of old unhelpful patterns of being.
Can I get ‘stuck’ in Hypnosis?
No, Hypnosis is a very natural state and cannot hold anyone against their will. After hypnosis a person ‘awakes’ naturally, just as they do after sleep. If you needed to open your eyes at any point for any emergency reason during a hypnotherapy session you would do so.
Can you make me run around like a chicken like they do on those stage shows?
The answer is no! I have never been interested in any of that! I am a hypnotherapist which means I use Hypnosis to help my patients to feel better in themselves – I cannot think of a single situation where thinking you were a chicken would help you!
The types of complaints I have had the greatest success with:
• Anxiety-related complaints, nervousness, tension, uncertainty, overwhelm, insomnia/sleeplessness
• Low self-esteem, lack of confidence, lack of direction or motivation
• Life changes: relationship breakdown, job change, family issues, bereavement
• Performance anxiety: exams, driving tests, public speaking, interviews
• Feeling overwhelmed, just not knowing what to do
And it’s not all about complaints. Many people come to Hayley because they want to:
• Make positive changes in their already-good life and want the tools to be able to do that
• Do their best in a job interview
• Become great at Public Speaking
• Do something new
