How to Improve Confidence and Self-esteem

For many people who come to see me to improve their confidence and self-esteem, there is a little part of them that says ‘yes, but you don’t want to be too confident, do you?’ or ‘you don’t want to become arrogant.’

And that is right. You do not want to be too confident, you just want to feel comfortable in your own skin.

I feel this worry about ‘too much confidence’ comes from one of the many misconceptions about hypnosis – that you can make somebody do something they don’t want to do, or do something out of character.

I find that it is very important in the first appointment with a new patient to discuss with them what hypnosis is and what it isn’t so that they feel comfortable, know what to expect and can ask any of the questions they might like to get out of their mind.

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. In fact I do not ‘hypnotise’ people – I facilitate their hypnosis. I talk to them and give them the steps to follow and they in fact hypnotise themselves. It relies very much on their control. In hypnosis you are totally in control – if I said something to somebody that they didn’t agree with in hypnosis, they still wouldn’t agree with it in even though they were in hypnosis.

You don’t (and can’t) bypass a person and their values and beliefs – I help the person to work on what they want to work on to make improvements in their life and the changes they make are not made by me. Using hypnosis we work on the improvements they feel would benefit them and fit into their life.

So when a person wants to work on their confidence, it is not about injecting them with an over-powering confidence. It is about helping them to find the level of confidence they are happy and comfortable with. So that they do not feel arrogant, or bolshy, they just feel like themselves, but without the fear, anxiety and trepidation that a lack of confidence can bring.

If you are not as confident as you would like to be and feel it is holding you back, then why not call or email Hayley to discuss treatment?
