Networking with Rhinos at Port Lympne

by Administrator on February 4 2010

IMG_0040Hayley went networking this morning which is a great way of meeting fellow business people from Hythe, Folkestone and further afield in Kent.  This is great for support with business needs and discovering other great businesses that we can recommend to other people, and a lovely way of meeting other people who could use our help themselves, or can tell their friends and family about us.

The networking group is called Counterpoint Networking (based in Hythe and run by the same people who publish the Hythe Handbook, which we write for regularly)  and is run in association with the Aspinall Business Club.  The meetings are therefore held monthly at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park near Hythe, Kent, so as well as the networking, we support the amazing work done by the Aspinall Foundation, and also get to meet the animals!!

This time, Hayley (Herbalist, Hypnotherapist and NLP Master Practitioner and ‘the Jones in Foreman & Jones’!) met and had the pleasure of stroking some rhinos!  She said:

“There were three that came to see us at the fence of their enclosure, and allowed us to stroke them. They have the most amazing mouths – their top lip is slightly prehensile (like a cow’s tongue, they can wrap round things – like the keeper’s hand!) and their mouths are really fleshy inside!!  What surprised us the most was the very cute squeaking noises they make!  There was a 3 1/2 year old and two 4 year olds, who all weighed around a tonne!  Rhinos are very much endangered in the wild, with their horns bringing in $30,000-$60,000 per kilo (about one rhino’s-worth) so you can see why desperate people might turn poacher.  How sad.”

Hayley met some lovely people at the meeting – some she had never met before and others who had heard of Foreman & Jones but who hadn’t met either of us, so it was really nice to meet up and put names to faces.  Hayley of course made sure they all knew about practice in Hythe High Street for Herbal Medicine, Hypnotherapy (Hypnosis) and NLP.

We will keep you updated on what we learn from the Wild Animal Park – it really is fantastic work they do there, all in the name of conservation.
